ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The 16-year-old accused of fatally shooting a police officer in Florida will be tried as an adult after being indicted on a first-degree murder charge.
A grand jury indicted Nicholas Lindsey on Monday. Lindsey is accused of fatally shooting St. Petersburg Police officer David S. Crawford on Feb. 21.
Lindsey was being transported from the Pinellas County Juvenile Detention Center to the Pinellas County Jail.
Because of his age, Lindsey won't face the death penalty. If convicted on the first-degree murder charge, he could be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Authorities say the officer had been trying to talk to the teen after receiving a call about a suspicious person. Police say Lindsey was walking away from the officer, then turned and shot him.
